6 BEST Things to Do in Medellin, Colombia
Medellin is one of Colombia’s most famous tourist destinations. This legendary city was a “no-go” zone, but that is no longer the case. Medellin is now a bustling city eager to be discovered by travellers. I fell in love with the place during my first visit and came twice more (once to live for 6 weeks!).
I adore Medellin and believe it is a city that every traveller should see. Medellin, Colombia’s second-largest city, is for its pleasant weather throughout the year. Because the average temperature is 70°F (24°F), it is the “city of the eternal spring.”

1. Free Walking Tour
A costly trip is not required to discover Medellin. In reality, Medellin features one of the best free walking tours in Latin America. This walking tour is one of the greatest I’ve ever taken. To avoid being away, go to Real City’s website and schedule your free walking tour downtown the day before. To get to the tour’s starting point, take the metro to Alpujarra Station, where you’ll meet your tour guide at the appointed time.
2. Guatape
Guatape is a tiny tourist town close to Medellin. It is popularly renowned as Colombia’s most colourful town, and it is stunning! Aside from the colourful streets, there is a lot to do and see in Guatape. There’s plenty to keep you active, from boat cruises to climbing the big rock. The best way to visit Guatape is on an organised day trip from Medellin. It lasts more than 8 hours and will take up your entire day. Lunch is also provided!
3. Metro Cable in Parque Arvi
The cable cars that run throughout Medellin are a way for locals to get climb the high hills that surround the city. They are, still, a tourist attraction for visitors, providing stunning views of the city. There are a few popular routes, but I recommend taking the cable car up to Parque Arvi. To do so, take the cable car from Poblado Station to Acevedo Station.
Transfer to the next cable car, for which a new ticket is required. This is the longest cable car in the world, and it will transport you all the way to Parque Arvi. You can view the entire city as well as the surrounding farmland. It’s all quite simple, and you’ll see plenty of other tourists on the same path.

4. Parque Arvi
Parque Arvi is a large park and ecological environment reserve on Medellin’s outskirts. There are many hiking paths, waterfalls, and even an archaeological site. If you visit on the weekend, you’ll have the opportunity to visit Mercado Arv.
These modest farmers market is a fantastic spot to shop or eat something prepared. There are approximately 40 stands, making it a pleasant addition to your visit. Hiking is, of the most popular activity at Parque Arvi. Almost all the trails are easy, but they vary in length.
5. Comuna 13 tour
A vacation to Medellin would be incomplete without a stop at Comuna 13. This neighbourhood was before one of the most dangerous in all Medellin, but it is now quite the contrary, with magnificent graffiti, city vistas, and a lively vibe. Comuna 13 has since converted into a safe tourism destination.
You can now read about the area’s history and admire some of the incredible street art. It’s an excellent opportunity to see how much Medellin has changed up close as well as how everything that you’ve heard online may not be as true as you think.
6. Plaza Botero
Botero is one of Colombia’s most important painters, and you’ll see his distinctive sculptures and paintings all across Medellin (where he was born). In 2002, 23 bronze sculptures were to the city and put in this lovely square known as Plaza Botero. Plaza Botero, located a few metres from the Parque Berrio subway station (we usually took the underground), is a must-see for anybody visiting the city.
